Joining them will be a further seven UCI Pro Teams from the sports top level, including the team currently ranked number one in the world, Movistar Team. In total, six of the worlds top 10 teams will participate, with four of the top five ranked squads competing. Every year we get a very positive response from teams wishing to ride the Friends Life Tour of Britain and this year that has been even more so the case, said Race Director Mick Bennett. The Friends Life Tour of Britain gets underway in Liverpool on Sunday 7 September, finishing eight days later in central London, with 120 riders taking the start in the opening city centre stage at 14:15.

The central glazed section encloses a spectacular seven-storey atrium accessed directly from street level, creating a major new entrance to the building. The ground floor has been entirely re-clad and is devoted to retail units, cafes and restaurants which are open to the public. At the rear of the building, a new development of 23 mews houses offers affordable, key worker and private accommodation. In addition to the cost savings represented by retaining and refurbishing the existing building, the scheme incorporates a range of strategies to ensure that it is as energy efficient as possible. The introduction of a chilled beam system in all office spaces has considerably reduced energy use, while the double-skinned glazing masks enclosing the new floor areas are fritted to prevent excessive solar gain.
